Raksha Bandhan

29 Aug 2026

After the monsoon ends, this is the day to first take boats into the sea. To keep the sea god pleased and the sea calm, people worship the sea deity and offer coconuts and coins to the sea.

This is also the day of Raksha Bandhan. Sisters tie a rakhi on their brothers, whether biological or close like family. The idea is that the brother should protect the sister.

Similarly, Narali Purnima or Shravan Purnima is the day for performing Shravan rituals. On this day, the new sacred thread (yajñopavita) is worn. The main dish of the day is coconut rice, and other dishes are prepared like for any other festival.
